NFF Officials Set To Meet New Super Falcons Coach Over Terms Of Contract

Officials of the Federation left for Austria on Thursday ahead of  Nigeria friendlies with Algeria

Some senior Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials are expected to meet this morning in Abuja to discuss the terms of the contract for new Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum. The NFF announced on Monday that the American is the new manager of the Falcons to replace former manager Thomas Dennerby, who resigned in 2019. The football house did not mention the length of the contract and the financial details of the  agreement.

There was rport that Waldrum would retain his post in the United States as head coach of the University of Pittsburg women's team despite his new challenge to supervise the Nigerian women's national team.

The Guardian learned yesterday that some senior NFF officials, especially those on the Technical Committee, will meet today in the federal capital, Abuja, to discuss, among other things, the length of the contract and how the coach will operate.  .

According to some media reports, Waldrum, 64, who coached the Trinidad and Tobago national team between 2014 and 2016, will combine the work of the Super Falcons with that of the women of Pittsburgh. The report quotes a statement from the University of Pittsburgh women's football team's website, pittsburghpanthers.com: "Pitt's women's football head coach Randy Waldrum has been appointed head coach of the  Nigerian women's national team, the Nigerian Football Association said on Monday. Waldrum will coach the Super Falcons in addition to his current role as head coach of the Panthers (the Pittsburgh women's football team). "

However, an NFF official told The Guardian as gathered by Sports Central on Wednesday that no final decision has been made on whether or not Waldrum will combine the two jobs.

The official said: “We have not taken a final decision on that aspect. “I am on my way to Abuja now to meet with others on the issue. We should be able to reach a conclusion before we travel to Austria tomorrow (today).

Waldrum was the head coach of the United States U-23 national team before joining the University of Pittsburgh.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick is confident the new coach will help the nine-time African champion become a global force in women's football.

The Guardian recalls that former handler, U.S-based Florence Omagbemi, who led the team to win the 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, rejected the NFF's request to become Waldrum’s assistant over alleged order by a top official that she must relocate from America to Nigeria.
