Tim Sherwood Tips Chelsea And Tottenham To Challenge For The Title This Season

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has said Chelsea and Spurs are the "only" two teams, alongside Liverpool and Manchester City, to win the Premier League title this season.

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham are in second place after winning three spin games before the international break, helped by the fantastic form of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have only lost one game so far this campaign and are just two points behind their London rivals in fifth place.

In what has been an enthralling and unpredictable start to the season, reigning champions Liverpool are in third and one point behind league leaders Leicester City.

The Reds have lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries and Jurgen Klopp will have to find a way to progress without his two first-choice centre-backs.

Further down the table, Pep Guardiola’s two-time Premier League winners Manchester City are marooned in 10th place.

With the title race wide open, Sherwood snubbed the likes of Leicester and picked Chelsea and Spurs as the ‘only’ teams who could win the title bar Liverpool and City.

Sherwood told Premier League Productions as cited by Sports Central: ‘I think they [Chelsea] could possibly win the league because it is so open and with Liverpool’s injury problems, Man City a little bit stuttering at the start. ‘Tottenham and Chelsea I believe are only other two teams that can win the Premier League outside of Man City and Liverpool.  ‘You have to give them [Chelsea] a chance, if it’s not going to be Liverpool or Manchester City, they’re certainly going to be in the mix.

When asked what would represent a good season for Chelsea, Sherwood added: ‘For Roman Abramovich, to finish in the Champions League and win a trophy in my opinion.’ ‘For me, I think top four.
