Nigeria Division 2 Team Pulled An Upset Against A NPFL Club In The Lagos FA Cup Semi-final

Nigeria National League side, Inter FC of Lagos created an upset yesterday following their 2-0 win over Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in the semi-final of the Lagos FA Cup.

After narrowly escaping defeat at the hands of Box-2 Box- FC on Tuesday in the quarter final via penalty shootout win, the self-styled Noisy Lagosians failed to keep their  momentum as  they fell to Inter Lagos.

The Pride of Lagos took the lead in the 11th  minute courtesy of Tony Obia, who from the edge of the box superbly finished a pass from Abubakar Taheer.

With the early lead, Inter Lagos kept attacking for more and it paid off in the 45th minute. This time,  Taheer got a well-deserved goal. Obia the goalscorer, from his half of the pitch with a long pass combined with the left winger to score the second goal of the encounter.

Inter Lagos will now play in the Federation Cup but will have a battle for honours against Ikorodu City FC in the final of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Meanwhile, another NPFL title chaser, Remo Stars bite the dust in the semi-final of the Ogun State FA Cup following their penalty shootout loss to NNL side, Beyond Limits yesterday.

Remo Stars fresh off a victory over defending champions of the Federation Cup, Bendel Insurance could not defeat Beyond Limits at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne for the second straight year at the same stage.

Beyond Limits started the game with so much intensity against the Sky Blue Stars, proving too hot to handle for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side. The intensity paid off as the Viareggio Cup champions took the lead early in the sixth-minute courtesy of Chukwudi Isaac.

Shocked by the intent of the young boys, Remo Stars began to find the equaliser which came in the 28th minute from Haruna Hadi.

With the game level, both sides kept trying to increase their tally with Beyond Limits missing several goal-scoring chances.

A moment of shock came in the 58th  minute when Adebayo Dikko was shown a red card after receiving a second yellow  card. In the  89th  minute,  both teams were  reduced to 10 men with  Remo Stars’  Adedayo Olamilekan booked for the second time.

Remo Stars would later bow out on penalties to Beyond Limits and they won’t be in the National FA Cup for a second straight year.
