Former Top 5 Backs Djokovic To Surpass Roger Federer Record In The Grand Slam

Swiss champion Roger Federer has missed much of the season with double right knee surgery.  Thanks to the pandemic that literally stopped the world of tennis, Roger preferred to carefully manage his recovery and work around 2021.

His only tournament this season has been the 2020 Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals and lost only to world number 1 Novak Djokovic. From Australia to Australia with the Swiss champion who, apart from the sensational twists and turns, will resume his extraordinary career from the prestigious event in Melbourne.

Roger announced that he is working to be competitive at the Australian Open, a necessary situation given the implications that have occurred in the past. As announced by Craig Tiley, Roger Federer would be ready to preside at the ATP Cup and then officially decide whether to perform in Australia.

Former World No. 4 Greg Rusedski believes Novak Djokovic will break Pete Sampras' record for most year-end finishes at No. 1 and Roger Federer's record for most weeks at No. 1, but that Rafael Nadal might end up with the record for most Majors.

Rusedski on the Big 3

During a recent interview with Express Sport, Greg Rusedski spoke about the exciting landscape in the year ahead and also alluded to Djokovic's and Nadal's chances of breaking more records.

Rusedski said as cited by Sports: "I think Novak Djokovic will [surpass Pete Sampras' record for most year-end No. 1s and Roger Federer's record for most weeks as No. 1] but the only guy I'm thinking is that Rafael Nadal might have more Slams than him. "Djokovic is going to surpass Federer, he won't have the most wins or the most titles but he will surpass him for most Grand Slam titles." Rusedski believes the battle for most Majors will come down to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. "I think the battle is between two guys," the former US Open finalist said. "Not winning that US Open, that would've taken Novak Djokovic to 18 instead of 17 and now Rafael Nadal, you've got to give him the French unless [Dominic] Thiem can knock him off his pedestal in Paris.

That's the only guy who can beat him in my opinion there. He (Novak Djokovic) needs two Slams next year at least, or three." The ATP Cup 2021 will be conducted only in the city of Melbourne this year due to the coronavirus restrictions.

The mandatory 14-day quarantine period would prove highly inconvenient for everyone associated with the tournament. $15 million was the total prize money at the event last year. There were three different factors involved in awarding the total prize money to players. It included a sum for participation, the prize money for individual match wins, and prize money for tie victories.
