Paperwork Problems: Monaco’s Costly Coaching Gamble

AS Monaco are paying a heavy price for a technicality off the pitch.

According to L’Équipe, the Ligue 1 side are being fined €25,000 per match because head coach Sébastien Pocognoli is yet to complete his official coaching license.

Under French regulations, clubs must have a fully qualified coach registered on matchdays.

Monaco explored listing assistant Damien Perrinelle instead, but that option collapsed too, as he also lacks the required credentials.

With Pocognoli already overseeing 17 matches, the fines have climbed to a staggering €425,000. And if the Belgian remains in charge until the end of the season, the total could rise to around €750,000.

It’s a bold show of faith from Monaco — backing their man despite the financial hit.

But with the bill growing every week, the question is simple: how long can belief outweigh bureaucracy?
