Report according to USMNT general manager Brian McBride that American international and Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has formed a formidable partnership with one of Blues teammate that will see them fire the West Londoners into glory next season.
McBride said Pulisic has formed a good on-field understanding with Tammy Abraham and have praised Chelsea manager Frank Lampard on how he has helped the winger in settling down quite well.
Recalled how rough it has been for the 21-year-old ever since he joined from Borussia Dortmund last summer as he has struggled to get game time on the pitch his first few months. However, the former Borussia Dortmund man featured in 12 more games in all competitions before he suffered an injury on New Year’s Day against Burnley.
Lampard tried giving him a run of games as a starter, but Pulisic repaid the manager’s trust by scoring three goals and providing two assists from five matches in October.
He is said to be nearing return as he has been managed by the Blues medical team after a long layoff due the injury. But McBride said Pulisic found his ideal partner at Chelsea before his injury.
Speaking to Chelsea’s Mike’d up podcast, McBride said: “He seemed to really find a good bond with Tammy Abraham. “He was supplying him with good deliveries, and he was able to run off him and link-up well. So, the timing of the injury was very unfortunate, not only for Christian, but for Chelsea too.
McBride also believes that Blues boss has really played a major part in uniting the two players right from onset.
He said: “I think that’s the good thing about having a manager who has played the game at such a high level, because Frank was very patient with Christian at the beginning.”
The former Fulham striker also said that it’s not easy for players leaving another league from a different country to join a new team especially in England as it always comes with pressure to deliver. But Lampard understood that the young lad needs time to adapt.
McBride added: “It allowed time for Christian to settle in, adapt and integrate into the team. He was then able to understand how both Chelsea and Frank wanted him to play. “Then when the time was right, Frank really let Christian loose and you could see before the injury he was really sharp, he was quick on his heels and he was hurting opposition defenders.
Pulisic is expected to return as early to help his Blues team complete the remaining matches that was halted by coronavirus.
