Tottenham's Bid For Atalanta Defender Reportedly Accepted

Tottenham have had an offer for defender Cristian Romero accepted by Atalanta, talkSPORT understands.

Spurs have agreed to pay £43million, plus add-ons, for the Argentine centre-back.

The 23-year-old has impressed in Italy and was named Serie A’s best defender for the 2020/21 season.

Romero is currently halfway through a two-year loan at Atalanta from Juventus.

On the rumours linking him with Tottenham, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini said as cited by Sports Central: “I haven’t actually seen Romero yet, as he’ll be back on Monday. “We’ll see what his position is, then of course there is a negotiation in progress between the two clubs. We’ll see what the evaluations will be if he does leave.

Romero also won the Copa America with Argentina this summer and was named in the team of the tournament.

Spurs have been searching for a replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who joined Qatar side Al Duhail SC this summer.

They have been linked to the likes of Jules Kounde and Joachim Andersen, but may have finally got their man.
