On this year’s World Refugee day, the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) celebrates with an ‘Every Action Counts’ campaign.
According to Sports Central, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in statement said: “We need to fight for a more inclusive and equal world, a world where no one is left behind. It has never been clearer that all of us have a role to play in order to bring about change. Everyone can make a difference.
However, the campaign is aimed to remind the world that everyone can contribute to a “more just, inclusive, and equal world”.
The World basketball governing body and FIBA’s Foundation reveal in a statement: “FIBA would like to emphasize the power that basketball and sport in general has to facilitate an inclusive world and encourage everyone to use Basketball For Good.
The Foundation’s FIBA Open tournament is a great example as for the past three years it has integrated refugee athletes in the event and given them opportunities to play. The tournament was also part of the #WithRefugeesCampaign two consecutive years and invited participants to sign a petition to stand with refugees.
