Barça Shake-Up: Laporta Steps Down As Election Race Kicks Off

FC Barcelona is entering a new chapter of its political saga.

Joan Laporta has officially resigned as club president to run in the upcoming Board of Directors elections set for March 15.

The announcement came during Monday’s ordinary board meeting, where the club also formally launched the election process.

Laporta won’t be running alone — several high-ranking members of the current board have stepped down to participate in the vote.

This includes vice presidents Elena Fort (Institutional Area) and Antonio Escudero (Social Area), as well as directors Ferran Olivé, Josep Maria Albert, Javier Barbany, Miquel Camps, Aureli Mas, Javier Puig, and Joan Soler i Ferré.

Despite the departures, Barça’s leadership structure will remain operational until the end of the current mandate on June 30.

Interim president Rafael Yuste will take charge, supported by vice president and secretary Josep Cubells, treasurer Alfons Castro, and directors Josep Ignasi Macià, Àngel Riudalbas, Joan Solé i Sust, and Sisco Pujol.

With the countdown to March 15 underway, the stage is set for a high-stakes election that could define the club’s next era.

Fans and stakeholders alike are watching closely — the race for Barça’s future has officially begun.
