AFCON finals are never short on chaos, and Yevhann Diouf has finally shed light on one of the night’s most talked-about moments — the towel incident.
Speaking to RMC Sport, the goalkeeper explained how a simple attempt to return a towel spiralled into confusion. “At the beginning, a Moroccan player ran after me to take the towel — I was surprised,” Diouf revealed.
The situation escalated further when ball boys and a supervisor also stepped in as he tried to put it back.
Accused of lacking fair play, Diouf was left baffled. “I replied: ‘Fair play about what? You’re the ones taking the towels, and I’m the one not being fair play?’” he said.
Despite the distraction, Diouf kept his focus where it mattered.
His only aim was to ensure Édouard had his towel and the best possible conditions to perform — and ultimately, to help the team lift the trophy.
High tension, raw emotion, and AFCON drama at its finest.
